Christopher "Chris" Layton  *16.11.1955

Christopher "Chris" Layton (born November 16, 1955) is an American drummer and Software Engineer who rose to fame as one of the founding members of Double Trouble, a blues rock band led by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, Layton moved to Austin in 1975 and joined the band Greezy Wheels. He later joined Vaughan's band Double Trouble in 1978. After forming successful partnerships with bandmates Tommy Shannon and Reese Wynans, they recorded and performed with Vaughan until his death in 1990. Layton and Shannon later formed supergroups such as the Arc Angels, Storyville, and Grady. Currently, Layton is the drummer for the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band.

Early life and career

Christopher Layton was born on November 16, 1955 in Corpus Christi, Texas. During his childhood, Layton lived in Mathis, Texas, a small community where his father owned a car dealership.[1] After hearing Chubby Checker's version of "The Twist", he became fascinated with playing the drums.[2] Layton moved back to Corpus Christi and acquired his first drum set at the age of 13. He graduated from W. B. Ray High School, where he was part of the school band. He recalled that it was "pretty formal instruction", saying: "I had to learn how to read music and play with a group of people. When I got into high school, I actually stopped playing for a while. I got into surfing and hung out at the beach a lot." After attending Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Layton moved to Austin on December 18, 1975, joining the band Greezy Wheels.[3]

Double Trouble and later career

Layton's roommate, sax player Joe Sublett, recalls how Layton met Stevie Ray Vaughan:

After Stevie said he needed a drummer, I had been playing a lot of Texas blues and Chicago blues records for Chris. We had figured out a way to get the headphones from the living room to the back room where Chris had his drums set up. He was playing along with these records, and Stevie walked in the house and Chris had the headphones on. He tapped Chris on the shoulder and said, 'I'll give you a try if you'll play what I want' – something to that effect.
Chris was a great student and learned to play that stuff really well and quickly. It was a situation where if Stevie wanted him to play a certain way, he'd sit down and show him.[4]

On September 10, 1978, Layton joined Vaughan in Double Trouble, taking the name from a song by Otis Rush.[5] After Tommy Shannon replaced Newhouse in 1981, Double Trouble performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in July 1982, where their performance caught the attention of Jackson Browne.[6] The band's debut album, Texas Flood (1983), was recorded in Browne's studio and became a commercial success. The album was produced by John H. Hammond and sold over half a million copies by the end of the year.[7]

Layton would continue to record and perform with Vaughan and Double Trouble until Vaughan's death on August 27, 1990. He said of his death: "Stevie meant everything to me musically. His death was the worst thing that ever happened to me."[1] Following his death, Layton and Shannon formed the Arc Angels, with guitarists Doyle Bramhall II and Charlie Sexton. In 1994, they formed Storyville with David Holt, David Grissom, and singer Malford Milligan. Layton appeared with Shannon in a tribute to Vaughan broadcast on Austin City Limits in 1995.[8] Layton and Shannon also released their first solo album, Been a Long Time (2001), and featured many special guests such as Dr. John and Willie Nelson.[1] In 2003, Layton formed Grady with leader Gordie (a.k.a. Grady) Johnson, and has worked with many other artists including Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Johnson, and Susan Tedeschi.

Eden Brent   *16.11.1965

Eden Brent (* 16.

Auszeichnungen

Blues Music Award Acoustic Artist of The Year (2009)
Blues Music Award Acoustic Album of Year für Mississippi Number One (2009)
Blues Music Award Pinetop Perkins Piano Player (2010)

Eden Brent (born 16 November 1965 in Greenville, Mississippi[1] is an award-winning American musician on the independent Yellow Dog Records label. A blues pianist and vocalist, she combines boogie-woogie with elements of blues, jazz, soul, gospel and pop. Her vocal style has been compared to Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie and Aretha Franklin.[2][3] She took lessons from Abie "Boogaloo" Ames, a traditional blues and boogie woogie piano player and eventually earned the nickname "Little Boogaloo."[1]

In 2006, she won the Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge.[4] Along with other awards, Brent garnered two 2009 Blues Music Awards - one for Acoustic Artist of the Year, the other for Acoustic Album of the Year (Mississippi Number One).[5] At The 14th Annual Independent Music Awards in 2015, Eden Brent won the award in the "Holiday Song" category for "Valentine".

History

Eden Brent was born in 1965 and raised in Greenville, Mississippi. Brent studied jazz and music at the University of North Texas, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Music.[6]

When she was 16, Eden Brent met the late blues pioneer, Boogaloo Ames, and began to teach herself how to play his style. Brent has said,

"By the time I was 19, I’d nearly become sort of a groupie. I’d go hear him and request certain songs because I wanted to hear them and sort of watch over his shoulder a bit and watch the way he was playing. Sometimes I’d request the same thing over and over and then go home and try to learn it. Finally, after a few failures of not being able to pick it up on my own I was bold enough to ask him to teach me."[7]

In 1985, Ames took her under his wing for 16 years, nicknaming her Little Boogaloo.[8] This apprenticeship advanced Brent’s talents. She was featured alongside Ames in the 1999 PBS documentary, Boogaloo & Eden: Sustaining the Sound, and in the 2002 South African production Forty Days in the Delta.[9]

Brent has appeared around the country at venues and events such as the Kennedy Center, the 2000 Republican National Convention, the 2005 presidential inauguration (sharing the bill with B.B. King), the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, the British Embassy, Portland’s Waterfront Blues Festival, the Edmonton Blues Festival, the annual B.B. King Homecoming, and aboard the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise.[10]

Chicago „Chi“ Coltrane  *16.11.1942

Chicago „Chi“ Coltrane [ʃɪˈkɑːgoʊ ʃaɪ kɔlˈtreɪn][2] (* 16.

1977 kam das dritte Album Road to Tomorrow heraus.

Die nächsten Alben waren Silk and Steel (1981, mit den Hits Blinded by Love und Leaving It All Behind) und Ready to Roll (1982, mit On My Own, Soulstalker, Here Comes the Rain und Clouds, Dreams and Love).

Chi Coltrane (Chi is pronounced "shy"; born November 16, 1948) is an American rock-pop-jazz songwriter, pianist, and singer.

Career

Coltrane was born in Racine, Wisconsin, one of seven children of a Canadian mother and a German violinist father. She played a number of instruments as a child. Her family moved frequently; her father died when she was ten. She gave her first piano recital at the age of 12.[1] In 1970, she used two sidemen, an upright bassist and a drummer, playing jazz, funk and rock in local Chicago clubs and bars. In 1971 she represented the U.S. at the International Rock Festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She appeared on "The Tonight Show" and "The Midnight Special".

Her first hit in the United States was "Thunder and Lightning," released in May 1972. By August it reached #17 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, and #12 on the U.S. Record World top 100 record chart and U.S. CashBox top 100, #18 on the Canadian RPM magazine charts, and #4 on the German hit list. It drove her first album, Chi Coltrane, to stay on the charts for three months. The song "Go Like Elijah" also received considerable airplay, and held the #1 position on the Netherlands hit list for one month, peaking at US #94 (Record World).

After her first album was released, she released the album Let It Ride early in 1974 (on the Columbia label), Greatest Hits and Best Of albums in 1975, and in 1977 another album, Road To Tomorrow as well as Silk & Steel in 1981. She subsequently moved to Europe where she lived for a few years. She was voted Best Female Artist for two consecutive years. She released several albums on the Teldec label during the 1980s,[1] including Live! in 1982 (it reached #12 on the European charts), Ready to Roll (1983) and The Message (1986). In the European “100 Best Musicians of the Century” list, she was listed in the top 50.[citation needed] Golden Classics was released in November 1996 (Collectibles label). She has done TV soundtrack work and collaborated with Tangerine Dream in 1991. She returned to Los Angeles in 1993, where she built a recording studio and worked with underprivileged groups.

In 2009 Coltrane resumed her music career, releasing a new compilation The Essential Chi Coltrane – Yesterday, Today & Forever. The collection featured material from her 1980s albums Live!, Ready to Roll, and The Message. It also contained three new recordings, including the title track which featured a Paul Buckmaster string arrangement. The album was initially made available at her website.

Coltrane's first comeback performance was a concert in Vienna at the Donauinselfest in 2009, where she drew 100,000 people. She then did a tour in the Netherlands in October 2009. Her CD went to #55 on the charts within two weeks. She then signed with Sony and did another tour in the Netherlands as well as a highly successful tour in Germany. She performed tours in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014, in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium. As of 2014-2015 she was preparing for additional touring in Germany, and another tour in the Netherlands as well as a tour in Switzerland. She has written songs for and is committed to working next on a studio album of new material, scheduled to be released in 2015.

Gianandrea Pasquinelli  *16.11.1958

A mention of the mythical Argo's journey; 50 heroes under the wise leadership of Jason to make efforts to conquer the Golden Fleece; a myth, a story, a remote emotion shared by three musicians whose name starts with the letter G; three musicians in the search for adventure and aiming at exploring hostile shores. Armonauti Harmonica Trio is formed by three experienced and eclectic Italian musicians; Gianluca Caselli (living in Bologna, he plays the chromatic, chord and bass harmonicas); Gianni Massarutto (living in Pordenone, he plays the diatonic, bass, chord and cello harmonicas), Gianandrea Pasquinelli (living in Bologna, he plays the polka, diatonic, chord harmonicas). Sharing  a common musical background, the blues in its various expressions, Caselli-Massarutto-Pasquinelli, in the course of time, have developed individual stylistic paths. Caselli is one of the few harmonica players who tried to exploit the popular Italian songbook, his latest disc is devoted entirely to reinterpretations of popular tunes of the Adriatic seeside; Massarutto explored areas hitherto unexplored, his theater work with Roberto Pagura and then with Claudia Contin ("Beloved" directed by Ferruccio Merisi) are well received; other current projects include the "Bass Separatists" lead by trombonist Mauro Ottolini, the Honky Tonk trio, the collaboration with accordionist Nicola Milan. Pasquinelli is more acquainted with the traditional blues with excursions in the hard bop, his side project the Albariza Trio tries to combine rural blues and jazz harmony; he is also teaching professor of diatonic harmonica at the School of Modern Music in Ferrara. Features common to all three musicians are curiosity and appetite for innovation that led them to propose new technical solutions, innovative tunings and develop tools of new conception for the realization of this project focused on harmonicas. In this journey they are supported by Gino Zanon (Biancade - TV), an artisan involved in the development of instruments under the brand G & G Custom Harmonicas. The trio offers a repertoire linked to popular music and Italian songs with original arrangements and songs of his own composition.

Armonauti & Andrea Fiore - Nine Pound Hammer ( M.Travis)
Armonauti in Blue is the latest proposal of Armonauti harmonica trio; this time it's the road the theme that accompanies the feeling of the three eclectic musicians. After they met at the crossroad in the Black Forest in Germany, they decided to undertake a common journey into the world of the harmonica ; Gianluca Caselli (bass harmonica); Gianni Massarutto (diatonic harmonica solo); Gianandrea Pasquinelli (chord harmonica) played with great success in major international festivals, such as the National Harmonica Festival in Bristol (UK) and Parnu Harmonica Festival (Estonia); in this project, dedicated to acoustic blues of the 30s, they have joined forces with the multi-instrumentalist Andrea Fiore (vocals, guitar, ukulele, washboard, banjo and kazoo). The result is a complex blend of original songs with original arrangements for a guaranteed fun.
