Der Dresdner Heiko Jung ist einer der vielseitigsten und gefragtesten Schlagzeuger Mitteldeutschlands. Am Rande eines Jazzgigs mit dem „Matthias Bätzel Trio“ sprach Heiko im Interview mit jazzdrummerworld nicht nur über seine Mitwirkung an der kürzlich erschienenen CD des Jazzgitarristen Lorenzo Frizzera, sondern auch über seinen Werdegang als Musiker.
Mein Studium habe ich 1988, also noch vor der Wende, an der Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar aufgenommen. Damals stand für mich fest, dass ich Set spielen will. Die Intention, Orchesterschlagzeuger zu werden, hatte ich dabei nie. Den mit den heutigen Jazz/Rock/Pop-Hochschulausbildungen verwandten Studiengang „Tanz- und Unterhaltungsmusik“ konnte man jedoch nicht ohne weiteres besuchen, es gab einige Hürden. Allerdings bestand die Möglichkeit, über ein Vorbereitungsjahr direkt nach dem Schulabschluss eine klassische Ausbildung zu absolvieren. Und ich war so heiß darauf loszulegen, dass ich diesen kürzestmöglichen Weg gewählt habe und 1993 meinen Abschluss hatte. Drumset habe ich während des Studiums lediglich zwei Jahre lang im Nebenfach belegt. Um mich für das Setspiel fortzubilden, habe ich nach dem Studium Privatunterricht genommen und Workshops besucht. Und natürlich so viel in Bands und auch in Orchestern gespielt, wie es nur ging. Das ist ohnehin die beste Schule, man lernt unheimlich viel dazu. Mit welchem Feeling man zum Beispiel einen Shuffle spielt, kann einem selbst die beste Literatur nicht zeigen.

Heiko Jung (* 17. Dezember 1971 in Mühlhausen/Thüringen) ist ein deutscher Schlagzeuger in den Bereichen Jazz, Rock und Pop.
Leben und Wirken
Jung wuchs in seiner Geburtsstadt auf. Ab seinem siebten Lebensjahr hatte er Klavier- und Schlagzeugunterricht. Er studierte Klassisches Schlagwerk an der Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar und nahm zusätzlichen Unterricht bei Ari Hoenig, Jeff Hamilton, Jeff Hirshfield, John Marshall, Jojo Mayer, Ed Soph, Gary Chaffee und Steve Smith.
Von 1998 an wohnte Jung in Dresden. Aktuell spielt er in der Band von Jocelyn B. Smith, mit Dirk Michaelis, mit der Berliner Sängerin Christiane „Bobo“ Hebold (Bobo In White Wooden Houses), mit Die Zöllner, dem Matthias Bätzel Trio, Uschi Brüning und Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky sowie dem Lorenzo Frizzera Trio .
Weitere Künstler, mit denen Jung spielte, sind unter anderem Joey DeFrancesco, Rhoda Scott, Alberto Marsico, Jiggs Whigham, Philipp van Endert, die Thüringen Big Band, das Misha Piatigorsky Trio, Ulla Meinecke, Gustl Mayer, Wolfgang Schlüter, Barbara Dennerlein, die Fanny Krug Band, Wolfgang Köhler, Torsten Goods, Veronika Fischer und Werner Neumann. Seit dem Jahr 2000 unterrichtet er an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig Schlagzeug. Er ist nicht mit dem gleichnamigen Bassisten zu verwechseln.

Mit seinen beiden Bands „3 Dayz Whizkey“ und „HoAß“ sowie dem Projekt „Nightlife Defenders“, das dazu beitrug, dass Rock wieder im Bayerischen Rundfunk läuft, ist der Gitarrist und Songschreiber Tilo George Copperfield nicht mehr aus der bayerischen Rockmusikszene wegzudenken.
Nun veröffentlicht der musikalische Workaholic ein Soloalbum: „T.G. COPPERFIELD“. Am 2. Dezember spielt der Musiker mit seiner dafür gegründeten „Electric Band“ zusammen mit dem australischen Bluesrockern VDELLI im L.A. Cham. Ein guter Grund für uns, mal bei ihm nachzufragen.

3 Dayz Whizkey makes honest Rock and Roll music
Formed in 2012 as a Bluesrock Power Trio, 3 Dayz Whizkey fastly developped into a blues-driven Rock and Roll band deeply rooted in Southern Rock. Their first album “The devil and the deep blue sea”(Timezone Records, 2012) was produced by Big Tony and delivers pure Bluesrock. The album was mainly recorded by founding musicians Tilo George Copperfield (guitar), Big Tony (Bass) and Little Chris (drums). Guest musicians completed the studio line-up.
After first gigs, Brad the Snake was added to the original line-up as a guitar player and soon vocalist Myles Tyler joined the band. As a five-piece Rockband they recorded their second album “Black Water” (Timezone Records) in 2013. Again produced by Big Tony at “Captain´s Cabin” studios. This critically acclaimed longplayer lead 3 Dayz Whizkey to their first Germany Tour and a nomination for one of the most important record awards, the “Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik”.
2013 was a year of constant touring and more than 70 gigs all over Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This reinforced their status as a top live act and lead to three German Rock and Pop Awards in the category “best Rhythm and Blues band”.
2014 3 Dayz Whizkey´s permanent touring made the fan-base grow bigger and many sold-out shows paved their way on their second big Germany tour. Along the way they had the honor to support Vdelli, Henrik Freischlader, Ohrenfeindt, Pat Travers, Saxon, Michael Schenker, King King or U.D.O, just to name a few. Simultaneously they hit the studio and recorded their third record “Steam” (Timezone Records). The 17 tracks of the album were completely recorded live in the studio with nearly no overdubs, no headphones and no technical tricks. This makes “Steam” sound like a real 70s record and critics and fans all over the world praise the warm sound and the songwriting of the longplayer. A great step forward creatively and musically. An organic blend of Rock and Roll, Southern Rock, R&B and Country.
Another “German Rock and Pop Award” was the consequence of the high quality and enthusiastic work on the albums and high energy shows live on tour in 2014.
The band´s credo is playing live and playing hard. Spread good music to the people and keep the spirit of Rock and Roll and Blues alive. They are aware of the heritage and long history of the music they are playing and proud to be a part of the Rock and Roll touring circus. They simply love what they do and they do it for their fans! 3 Dayz Whizkey is more than a band. It´s a brotherhood on stage and off stage. It´s one for all and all for one. This fact reflects in their music as well as in everything they do.

Sonny Jones (April 15, 1931 – December 17, 1989) was an American New
Orleans blues singer and songwriter.[1] Over his lengthy career, Jones
worked with various blues musicians, most notably Fats Domino.
He is not to be confused with fellow blues musicians, Little Sonny nor Little Sonny Warner.
He was born Johnny Jones in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, and started singing professionally in the late 1940s. He befriended Fats Domino and, whilst working together, was given his nickname by Domino. In 1953 he released his debut single, "Do You Really Love Me" / "Is Everything Allright?", on Specialty. Jones recorded a further four songs for Imperial in 1954, which were produced by Dave Bartholomew, but all releases failed to find a commercial market. His connection with Domino endured and, up to 1961, Jones remained as Domino's opening act.[1][2] Jones tracks included the blues standard, "Farther Up the Road".
Jones was employed as the vocalist by a New Orleans based band led by the brothers, David and Melvin Lastie, until the late 1960s.[1] Jones also had regular employment at a sugar factory.[3] He returned to the recording studio in 1975, and issued his album, New Orleans R&B Gems, initially on the Netherlands based Black Magic label.[1] With contributions from veteran musicians including Dave "Fat Man" Williams, the record faithfully copied the R&B style and sound of the 1950s. It was re-issued in 1995 by Black Top.[4]
Jones was a regular performer at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.[1]
In December 1989, Jones died of heart failure in New Orleans, at the age of 58.
