For many years West Weston has been at the forefront of the European blues scene, as a charismatic front man, vocalist and musician. Widely acclaimed as one of the UK's finest exponents of the Chicago blues harmonica and boogie-woogie piano, he has fronted his own band The Bluesonics, as well as name acts, including 'The Brothers Grimm' and 'The Big Town Playboys' to audiences around the world.Having first come to prominence with award winning UK jump jive band 'Rent Party', West has now fulfilled one of his burning ambitions, to construct a big band recreating the true rocking Rhythm & Blues sounds of the 40's & 50's. Played with the genuine authority that comes with years of dedication and love of this bygone era, Big Rhythm is the fulfilment of that dream.
The cocktail of dynamic vocals, swinging harmonica, pulsating brass, rocking guitar and boogie-woogie piano mixed with the authentic toe tapping rhythms of the times has seen venues packed out to hear the biggest sound around. Their rendition of Smiley Lewis, Fats Domino and Wynonie Harris classics together with original material makes Big Rhythm a truly formidable outfit, described by the legendary 100 Club as having "the style and power of Roomful of Blues combined with the energy of the early Big Town Playboys".

Da haben sich fünf gestandene Männer zwischen 43 und 60 Jahren jahrelang intensiv um Familie und Beruf gekümmert und plötzlich festgestellt, dass doch noch mehr zum Leben gehört. Sie besannen sich auf ihr altes Hobby und gründeten eine Band. In der Folgezeit wurde intensiv geprobt, und am Freitag ließen sie erstmals öffentlich die (Rock-)Sau raus. Das neue Baby der fünf Herren heißt WASTEWATER, und Rock'n Roll vom Feinsten haben sie sich auf die Fahnen geschrieben. Wobei Rock'n Roll hier als Bezeichnung für Rockmusik im weitesten Sinne zu sehen ist. Im Vorfeld der Mugge habe ich versucht, irgendwas über die Jungs in Erfahrung zu bringen. Aber selbst das fast allwissende google schwieg sich aus. Nichts, nitschewo, nada, nothing, niente - das Internet half mir diesmal nicht weiter. WASTEWATER hat weder eine eigene Internetseite noch ein Myspace-Profil oder ähnliche Bandvorstellungen im Netz. Also vertraute ich auf Organisator Lutz Stein und seine Truppe vom Verein "IDEE 01239e.V.", denn bisher hatten sie noch immer ordentliche Muggen auf die Beine gestellt. Ich bin ja sowieso sehr gerne in dieser Kulturoase in der Plattenbau-Wüste von Dresden-Prohlis zu Gast, weil ich es gut und sehr wichtig finde, was unter dem Dach von "IDEE01239e.V." alles kulturell passiert und das zu Preisen, die auch für die schmalen Geldbeutel der Arbeitslosen und HARTZ IV-Empfänger erschwinglich sind. Die Menschen sollen raus aus der Einsamkeit der Platte und rein in den Club unter Menschen. Neben Konzerten gibt es zum Beispiel auch Lesungen, Filmabende oder Kurse. Mir ist ein Teil dieser "verrückten" Vereinsleute, die nie aufgeben und immer wieder Großartiges auf die Beine stellen, mittlerweile echt ans Herz gewachsen und ich fühle mich unter ihnen wohl.
Da WASTEWATER sicher nicht nur für mich total neu ist, möchte ich hier zunächst erstmal die Band ganz kurz vorstellen. Der Name WASTEWATER (zu deutsch Abwasser) wurde nach den Aussagen von Sänger Eike Taesler an diesem Abend gewählt, weil die Herren in der Nähe eines Klärwerkes (oder war's eine Klärgrube?) proben, und weil sich (nicht nur) ihr konsumiertes Bier letztendlich irgendwann auch hier wieder findet. Etwas scherzhaft bezeichnen sie sich als älteste Newcomerband Dresdens wegen der die Rockgeschichte neu geschrieben werden muss. Ich mag ja diese Art von Humor, wo sich jemand selbst liebevoll auf die Schippe nimmt. Diese Sprüche lockerten das Ganze auch ordentlich auf. Das Publikum hatte noch mehr Spaß an der Mugge, spendete ordentlich Applaus und mancher Zwischenruf wurde von Taesler dankbar aufgenommen und entsprechend kommentiert.

Einer der fünf Musiker war auf der kleinen Bühne kaum zu sehen, weil er von seinen Mitspielern meistens verdeckt wurde, aber zu hören war er schon, wenn er zu einer seiner Harps griff. Dann wurde es immer richtig blueslastig. Christian Gnoss heißt der Mann, und ich glaube es war bei "Jumping Jack Flash" von den Stones, da hat er mir am Besten gefallen, weil er äußerst druckvoll alle anderen fast an die Wand geblasen hat. Das war ganz großes Tennis mit der Mundharmonika.

Jimmy "Mr. T99" Nelson (* 17. April 1919 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; † 29. Juli 2007 in Houston, Texas) war ein US-amerikanischer Bluessänger und Komponist, dessen musikalische Karriere über ein halbes Jahrhundert umfasste.
1941 sah Nelson in Oakland, Kalifornien, einen Auftritt von Big Joe Turner, woraufhin er ebenfalls Bluessänger werden wollte.[2] Big Joe gab ihm die ersten Lektionen, und Nelson übernahm den Stil seines Mentors.
Zwischen 1951 und 1961 veröffentlichte Nelson acht Singles bei verschiedenen Tochterlabels von Modern Records. Die erfolgreichste war der "T-99 Blues" (1951), ein Stück über den texanischen Highway 99; nach diesem Hit bekam Nelson seinen Spitznamen.
Nelson ging u. a. mit Joe Liggins und Roy Milton auf Tour und spielte in so bekannten Musiktheatern wie dem Apollo und dem Howard Theatre. Er brachte Singles bei verschiedenen Plattenfirmen heraus.
1955 heiratete Nelson und ließ sich in Houston in Texas nieder. Er schrieb weiterhin Songs und spielte bei verschiedenen Bands, allerdings nur noch als Nebenjob.
1981 erschien bei Ace Records (UK) ein Album mit seinen früheren Singles und bescherte Nelson ein Comeback. Er ging wieder auf Tour und machte neue Aufnahmen. Sein Album Rockin' and Shoutin' the Blues (1999) wurde für zwei Handy Awards nominiert.[3]

In 1952, Nelson had another RPM hit with "Meet Me With Your Black Dress On."
Nelson began touring, performing with bands led by Joe Liggins and Roy Milton, and playing venues including the Apollo and Howard theaters. He cut singles for a number of labels including Kent, Music City, Paradise and All Boy, and Chess (including for them the 1955 "Free and Easy Mind").
In 1955, Nelson met and married his Nettie (who is now deceased) and adopted Houston, Texas as his hometown. For the next 20 years, Nelson settled down and took a job working construction, though he continued to write songs and sit in with bands.
In the 1980s, Nelson came to the wider attention of blues fans when Ace issued ten of his sides on an album. Sweet Sugar Daddy a compilation album from the Japanese P-Vine Records, which mainly consisted of unreleased studio recordings from the 1960s and 1970s, was also released in 1988.
Nelson resumed touring and in 1999, released a comeback album Rockin' and Shoutin' the Blues from the Bullseye Blues & Jazz label. This album was nominated in two categories of the W.C. Handy Awards the following year.[4] Two more newly recorded albums followed on his own Nettie Marie label prior to his death, both featuring an all-star back-up band including Duke Robillard. In 2004, Ace released Cry Hard Luck, featuring re-issues of Nelson's Kent & RPM recordings from 1951-1961.
Nelson died of cancer at a nursing home in Houston on July 29, 2007.
