Kenny Neal, der in Baton Rouge aufgewachsen ist, lernte das Musizieren von seinem Vater Raful Neal und spielte bereits als 13-jähriger als Bassist in dessen Band mit. Mit 17 Jahren begleitete er Buddy Guy auf Tournee. Anschließend zog er nach Toronto und gründete mit seinen Brüdern Raful jr., Larry und Ronnie die Neal-Brothers Band. Auf der Bühne stand er bereits mit Blues-Legenden wie B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Muddy Waters, Aaron Neville, John Lee Hooker, Lucky Peterson und Lazy Lester. Er war Frontman bei der Canada's Downchild Blues Band. Seit 2004 ist er der Moderator einer TV-Sendung Neal's Place, in der er mit diversen Blues-Musikern spielt. Im Juni 2007 nahm er am Monterey Blues Festival teil, 2009 erhielt er den Monterey Bay Blues Festival Award.
Kenny Neal (born October 14, 1957, New Orleans, Louisiana, United States),[1] son of Raful Neal, is an American blues guitar player, singer and band member. Neal comes from a musical family and has often performed with his brothers in his band.
Career
Neal preserves the blues sound of his native south Louisiana, as befits someone who learned from Slim Harpo, Buddy Guy, and his father, harmonica player Raful Neal.[2]
In 1987, Neal cut his debut album for the Florida record producer Bob Greenlee — an updated swamp feast initially marketed on King Snake Records as Bio on the Bayou. Alligator Records picked it up the following year, retitling it Big News from Baton Rouge!![1]
In 1991, he proved to be a talented actor in the Broadway production of the folk musical Mule Bone (by Langston Hughes and Zora Neale Hurston), singing numbers written by Taj Mahal.[2]
Neal has played with blues stars including Lucky Peterson and Lazy Lester, and was at one time a member of The Downchild Blues Band, during a period of relocation to Toronto.[3]
In September 2006, Neal announced he was taking a year's break from recording and performing, due to an undisclosed illness.[4] He returned to the public eye at the Monterey Blues Festival in June 2007. His illness was also disclosed as Hepatitis C. He has children named Kenny, Syreeta, and Micah.[5]
Lately, he is touring with Efes Pilsen Blues Festival.[6]

Rudy Rotta ist ein Name, den man so schnell nicht mehr vergisst, wenn man ihn einmal live gesehen und gehört hat. Der gebürtige Italiener hat den Blues nicht nur im Blut, er hat in auch ganz tief in seiner Seele. Nach dem Durchbruch in seinem Heimatland stürmt Rudy Rotta nun wie ein Tornado durch Europa und hinterlässt in Deutschland, Österreich, Belgien, Frankreich, England, Irland und der Schweiz ein begeistertes Publikum. Rudy Rotta hat bereits jetzt der Bluesgeschichte seinen Stempel aufgedrückt. 1998 wurde er erneut zur Blues Cruise eingeladen und spielte mit Taj Mahal, den Fabulous Thunderbirds, Son Seals, Duke Robillard, John Hammond und Marcia Ball. Als Gast von John Mayall spielte er im Sommer 1998 beim “Delta Blues Festival”, beim”Nave Blues” und im Boston’s “House of Blues”.
In den letzten Jahren ist Rudy Rotta regelmässig in Europa aufgetreten, hat für die BBC und die legendäre Londoner Radiostation “Jazz FM” eine Show aufgenommen. Sein Auftritt beim „Great British R&B Festival” in Colne begeisterte und im Jahr 2000 und 2001 hat er zusammen mit dem mythischen Hammondspieler Brian Auger mehrere Tourneen unternommen. Im Jahr 2001 spielte er auch mit Robben Ford und im Juli desselben Jahres holte ihn B.B. King in Montreux auf die Bühne.
Die in 2003 erschienene CD “The Beatles in Blues” ist ein großer Erfolg sowohl beim Publikum als auch für die Kritiker. Im selben Jahr spielt Rudy beim berühmten “1. 2006 nimmt er zum fünften Mal am “Montreux Festival” teil und “Mississippi-Boat” feiert B.B. King’ gemeinsam mit B.B. King persönlich.
Schließlich bekommt Rudy Rotta die Ehre, mit dem Bau der ersten “Rudy Rotta Stratocaster” durch Fender Europe in den Olymp der weltbesten Gitarristen aufzusteigen. Es folgte eine zweite Rudy Rotta Signatur-Ausgabe, übergeben durch den italienischen Fender-Vertrieb bei der DISMA Musik-Messe von Rimini.

James "Son" Thomas (October 14, 1926 – June 26, 1993)[1][2] was an American Delta blues musician, gravedigger and sculptor from Leland, Mississippi.
Born in Eden, Mississippi, United States,[1][2] Thomas was known as a folk artist for his sculptures made from un-fired clay which he dug out of the banks of the Yazoo River. His most famous sculpted images were skulls (often featuring actual human teeth) which mirrored his job as a gravedigger and his often stated philosophy that "we all end up in the clay". In 1985, Thomas had his work featured in the prestigious Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C. where he was introduced to Mrs. Nancy Reagan then First Lady.[4] Thomas' skulls can also be found on display in several blues museums throughout Mississippi including the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale and the Highway 61 Blues Museum in Leland. Thomas played at numerous blues festivals and private parties throughout the area including the Mississippi Delta Blues and Heritage Festival in Greenville.
His later performances saw him accompanied by Swiss harmonica player Walter Liniger. Thomas was recorded by several small record labels and is probably best known for his album Gateway to the Delta which was recorded by Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi, although he remains an obscure figure outside of dedicated blues communities.[citation needed]
In the 1970s, he appeared in the following films: Delta Blues Singer: James "Sonny Ford" Thomas, Give My Poor Heart Ease: Mississippi Delta Bluesmen, and Mississippi Delta Blues.[1]
He died in 1993 in Greenville, Mississippi, from a combination of emphysema and a stroke.[2]
Thomas is buried in Leland and memorialized by a headstone placed in 1996 by the Mt. Zion Memorial Fund and paid for by John Fogerty. His epitaph consists of lyrics from one of his songs. His son, Pat Thomas, continues to play and perform his father's songs.

King was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States. He is the son of blues musician Tabby Thomas. He has won awards including "Album of the Year" for both Grammy Award and Country Music Awards. King has sold more than 10 million records in the United States. He is featured playing the part of Tommy Johnson in the Coen brothers' 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou?. He is also featured in Down From the Mountain and More Music From Ray soundtracks.
Artistic career
King is known as the pioneer of rap/blues fusion.[1] He conceived the first sample-based blues concept album in the early 1990s by writing and producing the first all-rap/blues album for RCA Records titled 21st Century Blues… From Da Hood.
As an entrepreneur King took control of his master recordings in the early 1990s, forming 21st Century Blues Records. He also established a publishing company, Young Blues Rebel, LLC. 21st Century Records signed the New Orleans Ninth Ward rap/blues duo the 21C-B-Boyz and the London, England based NuBlues, to 21st Century Blues Records in 2003.
King's acting career includes prominent roles in several films, including two music-related films. In the Oscar-winning film Ray he plays band leader and blues guitar player Lowell Fulson. During production he collaborated with Ray Charles in scoring the film.[2] In O Brother Where Art Thou?, he portrays a skilled blues guitarist who claims he sold his soul to the devil in exchange for his skill on guitar. The character is based on blues musicians Tommy Johnson and Robert Johnson, both of whom have been linked to selling their soul to the devil at a rural Mississippi crossroads.[3][4] King also accompanies the film's band the Soggy Bottom Boys on guitar; his rendition of "Hard Time Killing Floor Blues" was recorded live during filming and included on the film's Grammy-award-winning soundtrack.
King also starred in the Wim Wenders art house film The Soul of a Man, as Blind Willie Johnson and Kill Switch as Detective Storm with Steven Seagal.

Raphael Wressnig (* 14. Oktober 1979 in Graz) ist ein österreichischer Organist und Komponist im Bereich des Jazz und Blues.
Leben und Wirken
Raphael Wressnig besuchte den musischen Zweig am BORG Bad Radkersburg.[1] Im 16. Lebensjahr erarbeitete er mit Piano und Orgel verschiedene Blues- und Jazz-Stile, dabei wurde seine Spiel- und Ausdrucksweise von Hammond-Organisten wie Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff, Groove Holmes und Hank Marr beeinflusst. Aber auch moderne Interpreten wie John Medeski und Larry Goldings, bis hin zu Rock-, Soul- und Gospel-Organisten wie Billy Preston prägten seinen Stil. Mit seinem „Organic Trio“ nahm der Organist 2002 sein Debütalbum Manic Organic auf. Aus seiner vierjährigen Zusammenarbeit mit dem österreichischen Gitarristen und Songwriter Oliver Mally entstanden fünf Alben und eine DVD. Eine weitere Bühnenpartnerschaft entstand mit dem Blues-Sänger und Gitarrist Larry Garner. Als Mitglied seiner Band unternimmt Raphael Wressnig weltweite Konzerttouren. Im Lauf der letzten Jahre hat sich Raphael Wressnig vor allem auf das Spiel im Orgel-Trio- oder Orgel-Combo-Format konzentriert, und „Raphael Wressnig’s Organic Trio“ hat sich als eines der eigenständigsten, zeitgemäßen Hammond-Trios und als eine der heißesten Live-Bands in Österreich etabliert. Ihr Album „In Between“ wurde 2004 von den Kritikern des Concerto-Musikfachmagazins zum „Besten Jazz-Album des Jahres“ gewählt. Das Trio knüpft an den legendären Blue-Note-Sound an, definiert aber neue Wege und kreiert einen eigenständigen Sound. Das Album „Boom Bello“, das 2006 erschien und mit den Gästen Alex Schultz, „Sax“ Gordon, Christian Bachner und Luis Ribeiro aufgenommen wurde, belegt dies eindrucksvoll.
Alex Schultz ist einer von Raphaels wichtigsten musikalischen Partnern – daraus resultieren zahlreiche Tourneen, einerseits als cooles Orgel-Trio, andererseits als druckvolle Blues-Combo im Verband mit dem legendären Blues-Sänger Finis Tasby aus Dallas/Texas, oder mit „R&B Explosion“, einer „High Energy Combo“ mit dem heißesten Saxophonisten im Blues und R&B, „Sax“ Gordon. 2006 erschien ein weiteres Album, „Mosquito Bite“, das „Vintage“ und „Moderne“, Blues und Jazz verbindet; ein Resultat aus der langjährigen und immer noch andauernden Zusammenarbeit mit dem vielfach ausgezeichneten Gitarristen Enrico Crivellaro. Im Jahr 2007 entstand ein All-Star-Blues-Projekt der Extraklasse: „Women of Chicago Blues“ – die drei Powerhouse-Blues-Ladies Zora Young, Deitra Farr und Grana Louise begleitet von den „Ladies Men“, einer Chicago All-Star Combo mit Billy Flynn an der Gitarre, Kenny „Beedy Eye“ Smith (Sohn des Muddy-Waters-Drummers Willie „Big Eye“ Smith), Felton Crews am Bass (Miles Davis: „Man with a horn“-Album, u. a. auf Alben und Tourneen mit Ramsey Lewis, Otis Clay, Otis Rush, Charlie Musselwhite, Lucky Peterson) und Raphael Wressnig an der B-3 und den Keys. Im gleichen Jahr wurde Raphael Wressnig beim Poll des Musikmagazins Concerto zum „Besten Jazz-Künstler des Jahres“ gewählt und gewann den „Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik“. Im Jahr 2008 veröffentlichte Raphael Wressnig zwei Alben: „Cut A Little Deeper On The Funk“ mit Raphael Wressnig’s Organic Trio und zahlreichen Gästen (Craig Handy, „Sax“ Gordon, Luis Ribeiro, Christian Bachner, Eric Bloom) auf dem renommierten BHM Label (u. a. Mit „Party Factor“ veröffentlichte Wressnig im Jahr 2009 ein Groove-Jazz-Album, das messerscharfe Horns (u. a. Craig Handy, Harry Sokal, „Sax“ Gordon, Horst-Michael Schaffer, Robert Bachner), eine treibende Rhythm-Section (Luis Ribeiro, Lukas Knöfler, Silvio Berger, Georg Jantscher, Alex Schultz) und viele mächtige Hammond-Sounds bietet. „True Blue“ erschien 2010 wiederum auf BHM und bietet eleganten Soul-Jazz. Im selben Jahr nahm Raphael Wressnig mit Alex Schultz das Nachfolgealbum von „(Don’t Be) Afraid To Groove“ auf. Alex Schultz ist einer von Raphaels wichtigsten musikalischen Partnern – daraus resultieren zahlreiche Tourneen, einerseits als cooles Orgel-Trio, andererseits als druckvolle Blues-Combo im Verband mit dem legendären Blues-Sänger Finis Tasby aus Dallas/Texas, oder mit „R&B Explosion“, einer „High Energy Combo“ mit dem heißesten Saxophonisten im Blues und R&B, „Sax“ Gordon. 2006 erschien ein weiteres Album, „Mosquito Bite“, das „Vintage“ und „Moderne“, Blues und Jazz verbindet; ein Resultat aus der langjährigen und immer noch andauernden Zusammenarbeit mit dem vielfach ausgezeichneten Gitarristen Enrico Crivellaro. Wressnig’s ascent to status as a prominent B-3 player on the international blues, jazz, and roots-music scenes has made for an interesting life journey. Raphael was born on the 14th of October 1979 in Graz (Austria). Self-taught on both piano and organ starting at age 16, he was immediately drawn into blues , jazz and funk and has never looked back. Developing a highly personal style, Raphael soon founded “Raphael Wressnig’s Organic Trio” which resulted in their debut album “Manic Organic” in 2002. He started a 4 year, 6 record association with the Austrian guitarist and songwriter “Sir” Oliver Mally. Blues great Larry Garner from Baton Rouge, Louisiana asked Raphael to join his band – a collaboration that has lasted many years. Over the years Raphael has toured and played with some of the best known and respected blues players in the world including: Tad Robinson, Finis Tasby, Deitra Farr, Walter “Wolfman” Washington, Sugaray Rayford, Igor Prado, Zora Young, Kirk Fletcher, George Porter, Jr. (The Meters), “Wee” Willie Walker, “Monster” Mike Welch, “Paris Slim” Frank Goldwasser, Phil Guy, Ian Siegal, Louisiana Red, Billy Flynn, Matt Skoller, Sugar Blue (Grammy Award-winner, Rolling Stones, “Miss You”), James Armstrong, John Mooney, Steve Bell, Steve James, Jai Malano, Sharrie Williams and Doug McLeod. This album features the legendary singers Deitra Farr and Tad Robinson, guitar player Kirk Fletcher (Fabulous Thunderbirds) and “Sax” Gordon and Eric Bloom from the neo-soul-funk groups Soulive and Lettuce. “Soul Gift” offers jewels from the soul-jazz bag, takes on soul classics, funky bombs & greasy blues!

Williams, dessen Mutter früh starb, wuchs bei seiner Patentante, der Bordellbesitzerin Lulu White, in der legendären Mahagony Hall auf (der er später seinen Mahagony Hall Stomp widmete). Er studierte an der St. Charles University seiner Heimatstadt Musik und war bald ein angesehener Ragtimepianist[1]
1907 konzertierte Williams in Chicago; um 1916 zog er nach New York City. Dort schrieb er mit Anton Lada von den Louisiana Five erste Songs und weitere Songs mit Fats Waller, etwa Squeeze Me (1918). 1925 begleitete er Josephine Baker auf ihrer ersten Europatournee, um nach drei Jahren wieder nach Amerika zurückzukehren. In den nächsten Jahren arbeitete er mit Lonnie Johnson und Teddy Bunn. 1936 ging er nach England, wo er mit Benny Carter wirkte (When Lights Are Low). Auch verbrachte er einen Großteil der 1950er Jahre in Schweden, Erst 1957 kehrte er wieder in die USA zurück.
Williams ist der Komponist zahlreicher Jazz- und Bluestitel - von ihm stammen zum Beispiel Basin Street Blues, I Ain’t Gonna Give Nobody None o’ This Jelly-Roll, I Ain't Got Nobody, Royal Garden Blues, I've Found a New Baby, Everybody Loves My Baby, Tishomingo Blues oder Careless Love, die er zum Teil auch mit (dem nicht verwandten) Clarence Williams verfasste.
Williams wurde 1970 in die Songwriters Hall of Fame aufgenommen.

Williams was married to Pat Castleton (a stage name of Agnes Bage). They had two daughters together called Della and Lindy.[3] Williams returned to New York shortly before his death in Flushing, New York on July 14, 1965.[2]
